Compass Tech Systems In SDM Magazine

Compass Tech Systems received national exposure in the June issue of the security industries leading publication SDM (Security Distributing and Marketing) magazine. The article (starting on page 68) covers the evolution of technologies used for perimeter detection.
Most of the security industry is still relying on copper or fiber cabling with detection modules attached to fencing. Some of the copper based systems use weather stations to reduce false alarms. For instance the windmill picks up an increase in air flow and compensates for the fence movement. This can result in the reduction of false alarms, but it also can add to the vulnerability of the protection system. The fiber systems rely on wave lengths and the tolerance can be adjusted for differing environmental challenges. As you can imagine, both of these systems can present challenges both in installing and maintaining.
While CTS has successfully used these methods, we much prefer the use of megapixel cameras and video analytics. The main advantage to Video Management Based system is the reduction of false alarms, detection devices being on the ‘interior’ of the protected area and the flexibility of the system. Instead of detecting just movement we can adjust our VMS system to pick up the size of the object moving. If an object of a predetermined size, such as a man enters the protected zone the system will alarm. This eliminates a raccoon climbing over the fence at 3:00AM and receiving a call to go out and make sure your site is secure.
